Healthcare has emerged as a key service sector industry with the realization that the growth and prosperity of the nation depends upon the health of its people, though the focus till now has been on curative care and flagship health schemes. Preventive healthcare on the other hand requires significant investment and coordinated efforts between different government agencies over a period of time to benefit society in the long run, typically making it economically unattractive for the private enterprise. The situation has been compounded with the increasing burden of life style diseases on both rural and urban population. As 80% of healthcare delivery is currently being provided by the private sector and is focused on curative care, the key issue to be addressed is how and what role private sector can play in supporting the government to focus on "preventive healthcare".
